Growing cycle

A deciduous shrub, Buddleia has woody stems and long deep green leaves. Flowers appear from June to October which attract butterflies and moths, hence the nickname, 'butterfly bush'.  Seeds are wind dispersed.

Flowers

The garden varieties produce white, pale lavender and pinks flowers, whilst the davidii variation has deep purple flowers - this is the variety you will likely encounter on waste ground, along railway tracks, and in the wild.

Buddleia typically grows in poor, rocky soils.
